Samsung announced plans to hire 60-thousand new employees over the next five years to foster additional growth engines and create jobs for South Korea's young people.

The hires will be concentrated in semiconductors, bio and artificial intelligence(AI).

Samsung has maintained a groupwide open recruitment program for entry-level workers since 1957, and 19 of its affiliates are currently in the process of recruiting for the second half of the year.

The group, which also runs internship programs, intends to expand its scope to help more university students obtain the practical skills required for employment and to formally hire candidates who prove their qualifications through the program.

The conglomerate is also in the forefront of hiring technical talent, having scooped up more than 1,000 National Skills Competition winners, as well as graduates of Meister vocational high schools, since 2007.
