The South Korean government has moved the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit's dinner venue from a newly built hanok-style hall at the National Museum of Gyeongju to the banquet hall of Lahan Hotel just one month before the event kicks off.

The government said in a news release that the change would allow for more guests, but a KBS investigation found that the decision was also motivated by an inspection that was unable to verify the safety of the museum facility's fire and electrical systems due to its unfinished state.

The hall also lacked indoor restrooms and kitchen facilities, requiring guests to walk up to 300 meters, and food to be driven to the premises.

Other issues included steep stairs, limited elevator access, and concerns about the structural safety of the temporary wooden building.

The government said the museum site will instead host networking events for business leaders and heads of state.
