U.S. President Donald Trump will drastically increase the fee to issue the H-1B visa for professionals to 100-thousand U.S. dollars annually per person.

Trump signed a related executive order on Friday to levy a 100-thousand-dollar fee for applicants to the H-1B visa program for skilled foreign workers.

The fee was previously set at around one-thousand dollars.

The H-1B visa applies to professionals in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics(STEM), with an annual issuance cap in a draw of 85-thousand.

At the executive order signing, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said companies should place priority on training "one of the recent graduates" in America, rather than bringing in people to take American jobs.

He added that if companies want to bring in a very sophisticated engineer, they must first pay 100-thousand dollars a year for the H-1B visa.
