The White House has confirmed that a newly announced fee for H-1B visa applicants will not apply to current visa holders.

In a post on X on Saturday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the 100-thousand-dollar fee for skilled foreign worker applicants under the H-1B visa program would apply "only to new visas, not renewals, and not current visa holders."

Leavitt emphasized that the fee is not recurring, describing it as a "one-time fee that applies only to the petition."

She also noted that "H-1B visa holders can leave and re-enter the country to the same extent as they normally would."

Her remarks follow United States President Donald Trump's signing of an executive order on Friday imposing the 100-thousand-dollar fee on new applicants to the H-1B program, specifically targeting professionals in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.
