The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety will carefully review U.S. President Donald Trump's recommendation that pregnant women avoid the use of Tylenol.

The ministry said Tuesday that it plans to request data and opinions from the drug's manufacturer before making an assessment.

Tylenol, an acetaminophen-based analgesic and antipyretic, has long been considered relatively safe for pregnant women and has commonly been prescribed for high fever, colds and headaches.

The review follows remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed in a news conference Monday that acetaminophen use during pregnancy could increase the risk of autism.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said the same day that no causal relationship had been established between acetaminophen and any neurological conditions but said it would be updating Tylenol's labels to reflect "evidence of possible association."
