Minister of Unification Chung Dong-young met Hyundai Group chief Hyun Jeong-eun and said he hoped the conglomerate could one day help South Korean groups visit North Korea's Wonsan Kalma coastal tourist zone and now-shuttered Mount Geumgang resort.

During the meeting on Monday, Chung said he hopes a day will come when North Korea can properly operate the seaside tourist zone, which opened in July.

Hyun said Hyundai also hopes for a resumption of inter-Korean tourism.

Hyundai Asan CEO Lee Paik-hoon, who accompanied Hyun to the meeting, said the company has already secured cruise vessels to take tourists to the marine tourism complex.

A Hyundai-sponsored tour program to to Mount Geumgang, a symbol of former President Kim Dae-jung's "Sunshine Policy," was suspended in 2008 following a North Korean soldier's fatal shooting of a South Korean tourist.
