A KF-16 fighter jet skidded off the runway while taking off for training at an air base in Chungju, North Chungcheong Province, on Tuesday afternoon.

The Air Force said the pilot came to a stop in a field next to the runway and walked out of the aircraft, unharmed, without ejecting.

The Air Force is investigating the cause of the mishap and the extent of damage to the jet.

The incident comes amid accusations of lax discipline after a string of recent mishaps, including a bomb misfire during a joint drill in March and another KF-16 crash in Alaska in June.
