Consumer sentiment fell for the first time in six months in September as trade negotiations between the U.S. and South Korea continue.

The Bank of Korea(BOK) announced Wednesday that the composite consumer sentiment index totaled 110-point-one in September, down one-point-three points from the previous month. A reading above 100 indicates that optimists outnumber pessimists.

The figure marks the first fall following five straight on-month increases.

The BOK attributed the fall to prolonged uncertainty regarding the outcome of ongoing U.S. tariff negotiations and the continued slump in the construction sector.

The subindex that measures consumers’ economic outlook dropped three points to 97.
