Bilateral talks are underway regarding Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba's visit to South Korea next week.

An official from South Korea’s foreign ministry said Thursday that the government was currently coordinating the upcoming visit with the Japanese side and would announce details of Ishiba’s itinerary and destinations later.

Ishiba, who announced his resignation earlier this month, is likely to visit Busan for two days starting Tuesday.

Citing a diplomatic source, Japanese daily Mainichi Shimbun said the two nations are in the process of arranging the bilateral summit in the southeastern port city.

The outgoing prime minister’s trip reciprocates President Lee Jae Myung's visit to Japan last month and affirms the two leaders’ previous pledge to resume summit diplomacy.
