The Korean Medical Association(KMA) has dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump's claim that the use of Tylenol during pregnancy could increase the risk of autism.

In a briefing in Seoul on Thursday, the country's largest doctors' group said no scientific evidence supports Trump’s statement, which he made during a White House news conference on Monday.

The group said it has been confirmed internationally that it is safe to use acetaminophen, which is the active ingredient in Tylenol, in small doses and for a short period of time during pregnancy if deemed necessary.

The association urged the public to refrain from becoming uneasy over uncertain claims and to consult with their doctors before taking the medication.

Tylenol, an analgesic and antipyretic, has long been considered relatively safe for pregnant women and has commonly been prescribed for high fevers, colds and headaches.
