Former President Yoon Suk Yeol has appeared for the first hearing of his trial on new charges related to his brief imposition of martial law.

The hearing, marking Yoon's first pubic appearance since the former president was detained in July, began at 10:15 at the Seoul Central District Court.

Yoon, whose charges include obstruction of rights and abuse of authority, entered the courtroom wearing a navy suit and a badge on the left side of his chest labeled with his inmate number, "3617."

Yoon has skipped eleven consecutive hearings tied to his insurrection trial and did not comply with a summons for questioning from the special counsel team.

The trial will be fully filmed and broadcast after personal information is anonymized.

A bail hearing, where filming is not permitted, will follow.
