A Han River ferry was forced to turn back Friday just ten minutes after departing Magok Pier for the Jamsil area, due to a steering malfunction, with 70 passengers disembarking safely.

Seoul officials said the vessel, Hangang Bus No. 104, aborted its voyage near Gayang Bridge and returned to Seoul's western Magok at 12:50 pm

The ferry missed its 3:30 p.m. run while undergoing repairs but was cleared to resume service on the 6 p.m. Magok-Jamsil route.

Another model of the same vessel was blocked from departing on Monday by a generator charging failure.

The same day, another Hangang Bus, No. 102, was stranded near Ttukseom Pier for more than 20 minutes due to electrical problems.

These malfunctions have fueled safety concerns about the city’s recently launched ferry service.
