The government announced Sunday morning that restoration efforts are underway at the fire-damaged national data infrastructure center.

Kim Kwang-yong, chief of the Interior Ministry's Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, said that as of 7 a.m., more than 50 percent of network equipment had been restored at the National Information Resources Service data center in Daejeon.

Of the center's 767 key security devices, 763, or 99 percent, have been brought back online, Kim added.

The government plans to sequentially restart 551 of the center's 647 government network systems that were not directly damaged, aiming to complete the process by the end of Sunday and minimize public inconvenience.

Restoration of the remaining 96 systems, which sustained direct damage in the fire, is expected to take more time.
