President Lee Jae Myung will meet Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba in the southern port city of Busan on Tuesday.

National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac announced details of the summit on Monday, saying it would mark the revival and consolidation of "shuttle diplomacy" between the two leaders a month after Lee's most recent visit to Japan in August.

The agenda includes shared challenges, such as shifting demographics and regional revitalization, along with future cooperation in artificial intelligence and hydrogen energy.

It will also be the first time in 21 years that a Japanese leader has visited a Korean city outside Seoul for a bilateral summit.

Ishiba’s trip comes shortly before he is set to step down next month, though Wi said Seoul expects him to continue contributing to bilateral ties as a senior lawmaker.
