Police have launched an investigation into the fire at the National Information Resources Service in Daejeon that caused widespread disruption to government computer systems over the weekend.

The National Police Agency said Monday it has formed a 20-member task force led by the chief of the Daejeon Police Agency’s criminal division.

Specialists from Seoul’s lithium battery fire unit have also joined the probe, with batteries suspected as a possible cause of the blaze.

Investigators have conducted three forensic inspections of the site and questioned seven people who were present during the incident.

Police noted that just one of the 96 affected services, a helicopter management system, was tied to law enforcement and said overall policing operations have not seen a significant impact.
