South Korea’s industrial output remained flat, and retail sales posted the largest decline in 18 months.

According to a Statistics Korea report released Tuesday, Korea’s overall industrial production stood at 114-point-five in August, unchanged from the previous month.

The retail sales index, a key indicator of consumer activity, dropped two-point-four percent from July, marking the largest monthly decline since February 2024.

The fall appears to reflect July's increased spending following the rollout of consumption coupons.

Construction output also fell sharply, by six-point-one percent, with building construction and civil engineering down six-point-eight and four percent respectively.

The composite coincident index, which measures current economic conditions, rose by zero-point-two points from the previous month.

The composite leading index, which projects future economic trends, rose by zero-point-five points.
