The White House announced that U.S. President Donald Trump remains open to holding talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un “without any preconditions.”

A White House official made the statement on Tuesday when asked by a reporter whether Trump was willing to engage with Kim without raising the nuclear issue.

The official noted that Trump had held three summits with Kim during his first term in office.

Last month, Pyongyang indicated a willingness to engage in talks with Washington if it were to abandon its insistence on denuclearization.

The White House official, however, emphasized that U.S. policy toward North Korea remains unchanged and reiterated that Trump is open to dialogue with Kim with no strings attached.
