A leading U.S. Business magazine forecasts that South Korea could morph itself into a gigantic force in the digital age of the future.

In its latest edition, Fortune introduced the backstory on how South Korea came to have the highest per capita penetration rate of broadband Internet service in the world.

According to the magazine, 75 percent of South Korean households enjoy high-speed, always-on digital communications broadband, while slightly more than 20 percent of homes in the U.S. have broadband connections.

The report also cited that ordinary households in Korea get faster Internet connections than all but the biggest U.S. businesses, saying that in Korea, broadband is as basic a utility as water or electricity and touches its citizens' lives in ways that are barely imaginable.

The magazine predicted that South Korea, a geographically small nation, could have a giant influence on the digital future.
