S. Korea Posts Current Account Surplus for 28th Straight Month in August

South Korea posted a current account surplus for the 28th consecutive month in August. 

According to preliminary data from the Bank of Korea released Thursday, the surplus stood at nine-point-15 billion U.S. dollars in August. 

The figure marks the largest surplus recorded in any August and a decrease from the previous month’s figure of ten-point-78 billion dollars.

The nation has reported a current account surplus every month since May 2023.

The goods account also recorded a surplus of nine-point-four billion dollars in August, the second-largest on record.

Exports decreased one-point-eight percent from the previous year to 56-point-44 billion dollars in August, while imports slipped seven-point-three percent on-year to 47-point-04 billion dollars.
