South Korea’s inflation climbed back into the two-percent range in September after dipping briefly in August due to a reduction in mobile phone charges.

The Ministry of Data and Statistics, formerly Statistics Korea, reported on Thursday that the consumer price index for September stood at 117-point-06, up two-point-one percent from the previous year.

Perceived inflation increased two-point-five percent, a notable rise from the one-point-five percent logged in August.

Food prices rose three-point-two percent year-on-year, driven by sharp increases in rice, eggs and coffee of 15-point-nine, nine-point-two and 15-point-six percent respectively.

The ministry noted that government-issued consumption coupons, designed to stimulate spending, appeared to have had little impact on inflation.
