Former President Yoon Suk Yeol was ordered to remain in custody without bail as his martial law trial continues.

The Seoul Central District Court denied Yoon's request for release on Thursday, citing the former president's potential to destroy evidence.

Yoon had requested release on bail on September 19 due to health issues.

The former president argued during his bail hearing last week that if released, he would exercise, follow a diabetes-friendly diet and cooperate with judicial proceedings.

The former president has been in custody since July, when the special counsel team led by Cho Eun-suk placed him in pretrial detention a second time in connection with his failed December 3 martial law bid.
