South Korea will celebrate the 579th Hangeul Day with events honoring King Sejong and the creation of the Korean alphabet.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said it will hold a floral tribute ceremony at Gwanghwamun Square in central Seoul, in front of King Sejong's statue, on the morning of October 9 to commemorate the monarch's introduction of the Korean writing system.

The Korean Language and Information Society will also host an online event titled “I Love Hangeul,” during which citizens can decorate Korean characters with floral patterns.

Participants can select blossoms such as the hibiscus (love), iris (wisdom), chrysanthemum (respect), hydrangea (understanding), or sunflower (gratitude and light) to create a floral message.

The interactive exhibition runs through October 18 and is accessible via the event's website (https://sejong.plainkorean.kr).
