The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index(KOSPI) closed above the three-thousand-600 mark for the first time on Friday, as trading resumed after the long Chuseok holiday.

The index finished at three-thousand-610-point-60, up 61-point-39 points, or one-point-73 percent, from the previous close.

Samsung Electronics and SK hynix led the rally, climbing above 90-thousand won and 430-thousand won, respectively.

Foreign investors were net buyers, while individual and institutional investors took a selling stance.

The tech-heavy KOSDAQ also gained, rising five-point-24 points, or zero-point-61 percent, to close at 859-point-49.

Meanwhile, the Korean won weakened against the U.S. dollar, losing 21 won to close at one-thousand-421 won, its weakest in five months, amid lingering global market volatility and uncertainty over Seoul-Washington tariff negotiations.
