The first parliamentary audit under the Lee Jae Myung administration is set to begin Monday.

Seventeen National Assembly standing committees will audit roughly 800 public institutions over the course of a month, with intense confrontations expected between the ruling and opposition parties.

The ruling Democratic Party intends to use the audit as an opportunity to highlight the failures of the Yoon Suk Yeol administration and eradicate the vestiges of what it considers an insurrection perpetrated by the former president.

The party also plans to expedite ongoing reform initiatives, including judicial reforms, that it has been preparing at the party level.

Meanwhile, the main opposition People Power Party aims to correct what it views as incompetence and unilateralism on the part of the Lee government, describing Monday as the start of the public’s judgment on an “amateur administration.”
