Home prices in Seoul rose at a faster pace in September, marking the first acceleration in three months, defying the government's recent attempts to stabilize the housing market.

According to a survey the Korea Real Estate Board released Wednesday, Seoul’s overall housing price index, which includes apartments, townhouses and detached homes, climbed zero-point-58 percent between August and September.

The board said buying interest grew around large complexes and redevelopment zones near subway stations, driving prices higher.

Price growth rebounded, led by sharp gains in Seoul's Seongdong, Songpa, Yongsan, and Mapo districts, after slowing for two months following governmental mortgage caps introduced on June 27.

Nationwide, home prices rose zero-point-09 percent while the broader capital region posted a zero-point-22 percent gain.
