Four South Koreans have been released from detention in Cambodia and flown back to their home country.

The National Police Agency announced Wednesday that the group had returned to South Korea on two Korean Air flights the previous day.

The four individuals, some of whom were already subject to red notices issued by Interpol, were arrested in Cambodia during a police bust of a crime ring.

The police had previously announced that they planned to repatriate all South Korean citizens currently in Cambodian custody within the next month.

Since a maximum of two criminal suspects, each accompanied by two police detectives, can board the same international commercial flight under the Aviation Security Act, the South Korean government is reportedly looking into chartering a plane that can carry more individuals in one go.

A police official, however, said no such plan has yet been finalized.
