U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated a previous claim that South Korea agreed to make an up-front payment of 350 billion U.S. dollars as part of a trade deal with the United States.

During a news conference at the White House on Wednesday, Trump touted the "agreement" as an achievement of his tariff policies.

The president said both South Korea and Japan had "signed," claiming Seoul had agreed to pay 350 billion dollars upfront, and Tokyo 650 billion dollars.

Trump appeared to misstate the figure for Japan, which has committed to investing 550 billion dollars.

South Korea and the U.S. reached a trade deal in late July, but the details of Seoul's 350 billion dollar investment package remain under negotiation, and a final signing has yet to take place.
