Authorities will conduct an autopsy next week on the remains of a South Korean university student who died in Cambodia after undergoing severe physical trauma.

The National Police Agency and Gyeongbuk Provincial Police said Friday that two South Korean investigators plan to depart for Cambodia as early as this weekend to participate in the procedure.

The dispatched officers will observe the autopsy process and verify the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.

The South Korean embassy in Phnom Penh reportedly informed the victim’s family on Thursday that the autopsy is likely to take place on Monday or Tuesday.

The police said they plan to speed up the investigation, using the autopsy results to determine the cause of death and hold those responsible to account.
