President Lee Jae Myung on Friday ordered the removal of illegal online job advertisements targeting Korean nationals for fraudulent job schemes across Southeast Asia following reports of South Koreans being detained in Cambodia.

The presidential office said in a statement that Lee had issued the directive to the Korea Communications Commission, the Korea Communications Standards Commission and the National Police Agency.

According to the statement, Lee called for broader monitoring beyond Cambodia, warning that heightened crackdowns there could push criminal networks to shift their operations to other Southeast Asian countries.

The agencies will monitor and report illegal recruitment ads to portal operators for prompt removal.

The government has also launched a joint task force and established a new council with Naver, Kakao and Google to strengthen regulatory oversight.
