South Korea and the United States will continue close communication and coordination on North Korea-related policies, including the possibility of U.S.-North Korea negotiations.

The presidential office said Sunday that Seoul and Washington have reaffirmed their stance that dialogue with North Korea remains open, both to advance peace on the Korean Peninsula and to address Pyongyang's nuclear program.

The statement came in response to a CNN report about potential talks between former U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

CNN reported Saturday that though U.S. officials have privately discussed arranging a meeting with Kim during Trump’s visit to Asia later this month, nothing has been scheduled.

Trump is expected to visit South Korea next Wednesday for a two-day trip ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Gyeongju.
