The police have requested the detention of 59 South Koreans who were released from Cambodian detention and repatriated on Saturday. 

The National Police Agency said in a press notice Monday that the police had requested the pretrial detention of 59 out of 64 individuals who Cambodian authorities said had been arrested for participating in online scams.

On the agency's request, prosecutors asked that 58 of the 59 suspects be remanded in custody and declined to prosecute one.

Of the other repatriated individuals, one was already subject to an active detention order, and the other four have been released.

Police are investigating whether the suspects willingly participated in criminal activities in Cambodia or did so under duress.
