South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff(JCS) reported that North Korea fired an unidentified ballistic missile toward the East Sea on Wednesday.

This was the North’s first ballistic missile launch since the inauguration of the Lee Jae Myung administration in early June.

It also marks North Korea’s fifth ballistic missile provocation this year and its first in 167 days, following the previous launch on May 8.

The JCS is currently analyzing the missile's specifications, including its model and range.

The launch comes ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Gyeongju, which will bring U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping to South Korea.
