Authorities have detained 58 South Koreans repatriated from Cambodia, who had been arrested in the Southeast Asian country on criminal charges.

The Uijeongbu District Court said on Tuesday that it had ordered the detention of ten repatriated criminal suspects whom prosecutors characterized as flight risks. 

Police accused the ten individuals of aiding online scams conducted by criminal rings in Cambodia between March and April of this year.

Following Tuesday's order, all 58 of the repatriated suspects for whom prosecution sought pretrial detention have been remanded in South Korean custody. 

Police had requested that 59 be held in detention, but the prosecution declined to pursue it for one individual.

Four additional repatriated South Korean nationals have been released from custody following a police investigation, and one was already subject to an active detention warrant upon arrival.
