US Secretary of State to Visit S. Korea Next Week

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit South Korea next week as part of a multination trip to Asia.

The U.S. State Department announced Wednesday that Rubio will travel from Sunday to Thursday to Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur, Japan's Tokyo and South Korea's Gyeongju.

The department added that Rubio’s trip aims to advance peace and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region, noting that he will attend the ASEAN Summit and related meetings, as well as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Economic Leaders’ Week.

He is also likely to accompany U.S. President Donald Trump on his regional tour.

This will be Rubio’s first visit to South Korea since taking office as Secretary of State in Trump’s second term in January.

During his stay, Rubio is expected to meet with Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac.
