South Korea’s economy grew more than one percent in the third quarter, driven by strong exports and a rebound in consumption and investment.

Preliminary data from the Bank of Korea released Tuesday showed that real gross domestic product rose one-point-two percent during the July–September period from the previous quarter.

The figure marks the largest quarterly growth in 18 months, since the first quarter of last year, when the economy also posted a one-point-two percent increase.

It also exceeds the central bank’s earlier projection of one-point-one percent.

The third-quarter growth was supported by gains in private consumption and exports, both rising one-point-three percent.

Real gross domestic income climbed zero-point-seven percent in the same period.
