China and the United States kicked off their high-stakes summit in South Korea during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation(APEC) gathering.

Chinese President Xi Jinping landed at Gimhae International Airport in Busan on Thursday morning for his first visit to South Korea in eleven years.

On the first day of his three-day state visit, Xi is holding a summit with U.S. President Donald Trump in Busan to discuss bilateral issues, including the easing of trade tensions.

On Saturday, Xi will meet with President Lee Jae Myung.

During the visit, Xi will also attend the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Gyeongju.

This U.S.-China summit marks the first meeting since Trump’s return to the presidency, drawing global attention to whether tensions over tariffs, technology and other issues can be eased.
