The United States presented its trade deal with South Korea while making claims that differed somewhat from Seoul's.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on X Wednesday that U.S. President Donald Trump had an exceptional meeting with President Lee Jae Myung and that South Korea had agreed to "fully" open its markets.

The statement diverged from Seoul's claim that it had declined to lower its import restrictions on products such as rice and beef.

Lutnick also said semiconductor tariffs were not part of the deal, while the South Korean government said the tariffs will remain at levels that are not disadvantageous to Taiwan.

The differences indicate that the two countries may continue back-and-forth discussions about sector-specific tariffs, including those on semiconductors, until they sign an official document reflecting the outcome of the negotiations.
