Hyundai Motor said its third-quarter operating profit fell nearly one trillion won, or around 700-point-six million U.S. dollars, due largely to the impact of U.S. import tariffs introduced in April.

The country's leading automaker said in a regulatory filing on Thursday that it had tentatively recorded an operating profit of two-point-54 trillion won in the July-to-September period, down 29-point-two percent from a year earlier.

Sales reached 46-point-72 trillion won, up eight-point-eight percent from the previous year, with a net profit of two-point-55 trillion won.

Despite its record third-quarter sales, Hyundai's operating profit dropped nearly one trillion won after the U.S. imposed a 25 percent tariff on auto imports.

Washington agreed to lower the levy to 15 percent on Wednesday as part of a trade agreement reached by the two sides at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation gathering in Gyeongju.
