President Lee Jae Myung said that the trade deal Seoul and Washington reached during his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump has eased economic uncertainty in South Korea.

The president made the remarks during a budget address at the National Assembly on Tuesday, while reviewing the results of last week's summit in Busan.

Lee added that progress in talks on fuel supply for nuclear-powered submarines has laid a stronger foundation for South Korea’s defensive self-reliance and created a breakthrough for uranium enrichment and spent fuel reprocessing, reinforcing the country’s energy security.

During the summit, Lee asked Trump to allow South Korea to secure fuel for nuclear-powered submarines, and Trump later approved Seoul's nuclear-powered submarines.

Lee said that during his summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, the two nations agreed to fully restore bilateral ties and move forward together as strategic cooperative partners on a path of pragmatism and mutual benefit.

The president added that he had poured his heart and soul into achieving the best possible outcome in the worst circumstances during his recent series of diplomatic engagements, including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation gathering and bilateral summits.
