South Korea posted a record current account surplus in September, driven by strong semiconductor and ship exports.

According to the Bank of Korea's preliminary Balance of Payments for September 2025, released Thursday, the current account posted a surplus of 13-point-47 billion U.S. dollars, up from nine-point-15 billion dollars in August.

The figure marks the largest surplus recorded in any September and the 29th consecutive month of surplus, with the nation reporting a current account surplus every month since May 2023.

The goods account recorded a surplus of 14-point-24 billion dollars in September, the second-largest on record.

Exports rose 12-point-six percent from the previous year in September, and imports increased four-point-five percent year-over-year.
