The United States could be forced to refund more than 100 billion dollars if the Supreme Court rules against U.S. President Donald Trump’s reciprocal tariffs.

In an interview with Fox News on Thursday, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said that if the government loses the case, it would be on the hook for the tariffs plaintiffs paid on imported purchases.

He added that, in such an event, the administration would need to devise a refund schedule and determine the rights of the parties involved.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Supreme Court began deliberations on the legality of the tariffs that Trump imposed on nations around the world, including South Korea.

Greer said he did not have the exact figure that the Trump administration would be on the hook for if it lost the case, but estimated that it might be between 100 billion and 200 billion U.S. dollars.
