President Lee Jae Myung has congratulated South Korean esports team T1 on winning the League of Legends World Championships for the third consecutive year, calling the victory a "remarkable feat" that would go down in esports history.
In a Facebook post on Monday, Lee congratulated T1's players and staff for becoming the first team in Worlds history to achieve three consecutive victories.
T1 clinched its third straight League of Legends title Sunday in Chengdu, China, defeating opponent KT Rolster 3 to 2.
Lee said that the team had once again demonstrated South Korea's strength as an "esports powerhouse" and pledged to continue supporting the development of e-sports and other cultural industries so that athletes can freely pursue their dreams and passions.
Lee praised T1’s remarkable journey, encouraged the players to keep making history, and applauded KT Rolster, the runners-up, for their thrilling performance in the finals.
