Foreign Minister Cho Hyun met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Monday to discuss combating online scams targeting South Korean nationals in the Southeast Asian country.

According to the foreign ministry, Cho proposed stepping up collaboration to protect South Korean nationals in Cambodia and to jointly respond to transnational crimes through a newly launched joint task force.

Hun Manet said Cambodia is also working to eradicate transnational crimes and expressed his willingness to continue cooperating with South Korea.

The two sides agreed to deepen their strategic partnership to address transnational crime and to explore ways to expand cooperation across trade, investment and labor, ahead of their 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2027.

The foreign ministry added that Cho met separately with Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, who pledged to address scams involving South Koreans in Cambodia.
