The presidential office has denied involvement in the government's decision not to appeal a ruling in the high-profile Daejang-dong corruption case, claiming it was entirely unrelated to the matter.

An official from the top office said Monday that there had been “no room” for the presidential office to be involved in the prosecution’s decision.

The official added that the office’s civil affairs team was notified only after the decision was made and did not take part in the decision-making process, stressing that claims of the presidential office’s involvement were “completely groundless.”

Another official also denied the office’s involvement, noting that it is currently preoccupied with foreign policy, national security and economic issues.

The presidential office has not issued any official statement or held a briefing on the matter.
