The presidential office said Wednesday it will approve the dismissal of Acting Prosecutor General Noh Man-seok once the justice minister formally submits the recommendation.

In a press statement, the office confirmed that “once the justice minister recommends the dismissal of Acting Prosecutor General Noh Man-seok, the president will accept it.”

Noh offered to step down earlier in the day amid mounting backlash within the prosecution over the government's decision not to appeal a court ruling in the high-profile Daejang-dong corruption case.

His resignation comes about four months after he assumed the acting role in July following the voluntary resignation of then-Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung.
