North Korea’s Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui denounced a joint statement by the foreign ministers of the Group of Seven(G7) nations, saying she opposes their push for the complete denuclearization of North Korea.
In a statement carried Friday by Pyongyang's state-run Korean Central News Agency(KCNA), Choe said the G7 foreign ministers’ joint statement infringes on North Korea's Constitution and that she condemns the act in the strongest terms.
The G7 joint statement, released Wednesday after a meeting in Canada, condemned North Korea’s nuclear weapons program and reaffirmed the group’s commitment to the regime's complete denuclearization.
Choe called the statement a “disguised hostile act” and said that in the current tense geopolitical environment, possessing nuclear weapons is the best way to deter dangerous and hostile states.
The top diplomat also stressed that the G7 has no right to dictate how sovereign countries safeguard their own security or to question North Korea’s choices.
