South Korea’s presidential office said on Monday that a proposal of inter-Korean military talks aims to prevent accidental clashes and ease tensions along the border.

The office explained that many Military Demarcation Line markers installed after the 1953 signing of the Korean War Armistice Agreement have been lost, creating differing interpretations of the boundary.

This ambiguity has led to recent incidents of North Korean troops crossing into South Korea's side of the demilitarized zone.

The proposal, delivered earlier by the defense ministry, calls for talks to establish clear baseline markers and avoid unintended confrontations.

Officials said the move had been made in full coordination with the presidential office, signalling strong support for renewed dialogue with the North.

Some also view the gesture as part of Seoul’s broader effort to rebuild communication channels with Pyongyang.
