Anchor: North Korea denounced a joint fact sheet Washington and Seoul released Friday, which outlines the details of the two allies' recent trade agreement and highlights a shared commitment to denuclearization. The presidential office responded diplomatically later the same day, vowing to maintain stability and ease tensions between the two Koreas.

Report: Four days after Seoul and Washington issued a joint fact sheet detailing the results of their recent Gyeongju summit, Pyongyang's state-run Korean Central News Agency denounced the allies’ move, calling it a display of the two governments' "true colors" and ignorant of North Korea's needs.

In Pyongyang’s first public response to the matter, the state-run Korean Central News Agency said in a statement published Tuesday that the release had escalated regional tensions.

The North also condemned Washington’s decision to allow Seoul to construct a nuclear-powered submarine, saying the United States had ignored the dangers of nuclear proliferation and risked fueling a nuclear arms race.

The regime vowed to take “justified” countermeasures to defend its security interests against the two confrontational states.

In the joint fact sheet released Friday, the two allies confirmed Washington’s support for Seoul’s plan to build nuclear-powered attack submarines and reiterated a shared commitment to the denuclearization of North Korea.

In a measured response to Pyongyang’s statement, Seoul’s presidential office said the same day that it would work to ease tensions and restore mutual trust between the two Koreas.

Spokesperson Kang Yu-jung denied the KCNA’s accusations that South Korea’s current administration harbors any hostility toward the North.

Kang said Seoul and Washington’s deal had been inked in the interests of national security and aimed to serve regional peace and stability.
