The special counsel team investigating whether former first lady Kim Keon-hee engaged in stock manipulation has requested that a court allow live coverage of her trial.
The team, led by Min Joong-ki, announced on Tuesday that it had asked the previous day for permission to broadcast Wednesday's documentary evidence hearing and the Dec. 3 proceedings, during which Kim is expected to take the stand.
This marks the first time the probe team has made such a request, and if the court allows the broadcast, live images of Kim in court will be made public for the first time in approximately two months.
The court allowed photos and videos at Kim's first hearing on Sept. 24.
The team also plans to request that its investigation, currently scheduled to end on Nov. 28, be extended to Dec. 28.
The former first lady stands accused of colluding with Deutsch Motors executives from 2010 to 2012 to manipulate share prices and receiving free polling services worth 270 million won, as well as luxury gifts, in exchange for favors.
