The brother of former first lady Kim Keon-hee, who is accused of concealing his sister's bribes and receiving preferential treatment during a development project, has appeared in court for a detention hearing.
Kim Jin-woo's hearing took place at the Seoul Central District Court from approximately 10:10 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. on Wednesday.
The trial concerns whether the former first lady's mother, Choi Eun-soon, and brother submitted falsified documents padding the costs of an apartment construction project in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province, to reduce the corresponding development fees between 2011 and 2016.
The brother also stands accused of helping his sister hide expensive gifts she received from former prosecutor Kim Sang-min and former National Education Commission Chair Lee Bae-yong in exchange for political favors at his mother-in-law's house.
The special counsel team is also investigating Kim Jin-woo's mother, but is not seeking her pretrial detention.
The court is set to rule as early as Wednesday night.
